What Can Happen When You Compromise On Security?

Physical Security Assessments. What Can Actually Happen When You Compromise On Security?

The reality

What Can Happen When You Compromise On Security? In fact, anything, and everything at any given time and place. Current data suggests that crime is on the rise.

Society is a construct, or theory, and its existence may be thought of in both literal, and figurative terms. We coexist as a society because of its benefits. Despite this, there are individuals who prey upon others by exploiting their vulnerabilities. With the understanding that there are no guarantees in life, all means of mitigation, and prevention should be explored and implemented in safeguarding lives and physical assets.

OnyxSpear offers no cost initial consultations regarding risk, threat, and vulnerability assessments to homeowners and businesses.

What is a physical security assessment?

A Physical Security Assessment, or Physical Security Risk Assessment, is a detailed examination of a structure in its entirety to include all physical safety, and security mechanisms, requisite to protecting its occupants, and assets. The aforementioned is an over simplified definition of a procedure having an array of critical elements. Only a professional, and expert in physical security operations, should conduct an assessment.

OnyxSpear follows a differing philosophy regarding physical security assessments, influenced by decades of observation, study, and active participation. Regrettably, the current paradigm for security solutions is deeply flawed. Life is not linear, nor are the behaviors of individuals. At this time, security operations in the U.S. and, in New York, are struggling, or failing, to evolve at a pace commensurate with and responsive to the complex societal dynamics of society. OnyxSpear is solely licensed in New York State. Consequently, any presented opinions regarding security operations are limited by our experiences, and observations made within New York.

Assessment cost

The cost of a physical security assessment is largely dependent on the client and their specific objectives. Considerations include but are not limited to property location, property size, structure size (sq.ft), client business model, budget, number of employees, presence of high-profile individuals, and threat history. However, implementing the proposed measures, and steps outlined within the assessment, can be costly. A physical security assessment is flexible by design, tailored to accommodate both residential, and business needs.

Why you need an assessment

All physical security assessments are predicated on accurate data and information. Our company solely relies on, and examines, data published by accountable and verified sources. Accordingly, we analyzed the 2022 crime index report prepared by the New York State, Division of Criminal Justice Services.

NYS Crime Index Report, 2022
2022 NYS DCJS Crime Index

“Index crime in New York State increased (+22%) in 2022
compared to 2021, with 421,322 Index crimes reported.
The increase was driven by a 25 percent increase in all
three property crimes and increases in the violent crimes
of robbery (+25%) and aggravated assault (+9%). Murder
(-11%) and rape (-4%) both decreased.”

“The state’s Index crime rate declined by 3 percent
when comparing 2013 and 2022. During the same time
period, the violent crime rate increased 11 percent and
New York State experienced a 36 percent increase in
firearm-related homicides when comparing 2013 to 2022
(See page 4 for additional details). This significant
increase mirrored trends that occurred nationally.”

Alarmingly, data clearly shows a rapid increase in criminal actions between 2021 and 2022. We are confident that criminal acts have surpassed the 2013 high mark. Physical Security Assessment

Ultimately, a physical security assessment is a plan of action for achieving a desired outcome. People, employees, guests, relatives, and friends are treasured assets, worthy of additional protections. Enhancing the physical security integrity of a structure increases its protective effectiveness. We believe the choice is clear. Trust the data.
